The Riverside Co. has announced the acquisition of Oberon Co., a North Dartmouth, Massachusetts-based designer and manufacturer of arc flash personal protective equipment, as an add-on for its SureWerx platform company.

Financial terms of the deal, which represents the eighth tuck-in company for SureWerx since acquiring it in November 2018, were not disclosed.

Arc flash equipment is used to protect workers from electrical and gas hazards.

A focus on that type of gear makes the company a proper fit for SureWerx, a Vancouver, British Columbia-based manufacturer of professional safety products, tools and equipment.

Oberon, founded in 1978, is described as one of the largest makers of arc flash PPE products in the country and an innovator in its field. Its first arc flash face shield and suit combo was introduced in 1985.

"As part of our strategic plan, we aim to accelerate Oberon's growth in e-commerce and other channels by leveraging SureWerx's significant resources as well as further investing in operations and talent," Riverside principal Daniel Grinnan said in a statement. "Also, similar to past add-ons, we will leverage SureWerx's expansive distribution network to cross-sell Oberon's products and introduce its market-leading Arc Flash technology to many new users."

Riverside is a global private equity firm co-headquartered in Cleveland that invests in growing businesses valued at up to $400 million in the smaller end of the middle market.
